TECHO and Univision Drive Awareness to Global Inequality Issues through NYC Poverty Awareness Campaign
NEW YORK, Oct. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TECHO, in partnership with Univision and Pace University, and alongside Oxfam, UNICEF, The Inter-American Development Bank, The Global Poverty Project, and the City of New York, will host the Poverty Awareness Campaign the week of October 5th. Launching on World Habitat Day, the events at Pace University will include varied discussions and activities focused on raising awareness of poverty.
The Poverty Awareness Campaign is seeking to act as an agent of change for New Yorkers in their role as key players in overcoming the obstacles faced by the global agenda.
The campaign's events will take place at Pace University in New York City from October 5−9 with the theme of ‟Poverty and Inequality in the Cities: Innovation and Action." An installation simulating an informal settlement will be placed on Pace's campus and will serve as a focal point for fundraising efforts and satellite events including:
- Tuesday, October 6 NYC-Focused Event
- 10:00 a.m. press conference with TECHO, UNIVISION, Oxfam and Univision spokespeople in front of Pace University
- Informal settlement installation revealed
- Discussions held at Pace University on eradicating local poverty
- Oxfam Hunger Banquet in NY
- Wednesday, October 7 Global Conference
- Global Conference at Pace University's Schimmel Center. Featured speakers include:
- Thursday, October 8 Google Hackathon

In Latin America today, 25% of the population, or over 113 million people, live in informal settlements in urban areas. The #1 SDG goal is to end poverty everywhere, in all its forms.
