Alcoa Inc. Research Reports
On October 2, 2014, Alcoa Inc. (Alcoa) announced the opening of world's largest aluminum-lithium plant in Lafayette, Indiana for the production of progressive, third-generation aluminum-lithium alloys for the aerospace industry. Responding to the growing demand, Alcoa expanded its aluminum-lithium abilities at the Alcoa Technical Center outside Pittsburgh, at its Kitts Green facility in the U.K., and in Lafayette. Alcoa has already contracted $100 million in aluminum-lithium revenues for 2017. The Company is also creating first ever aluminum-lithium forging for a front fan blade for Pratt & Whitney's PurePower engines. According to Alcoa, its facility at Lafayette, Indiana can manufacture over 20,000 metric tons (44 million pounds) of aluminum-lithium yearly, and thus is the largest facility of its kind, globally. The Company has allowed a 30-day option to underwriters to buy 2.1 million common units to cover over-allotments.
