NAPERVILLE, Ill., Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- TechAmerica announced today that the NASDAQ OMX AeA Illinois Tech Index (NASDAQ: ILTI) increased by 7.4 percent from November 6, 2009 – November 5, 2010. Within the last month, two new constituents, John Bean Technologies Corporation and Merge Healthcare Incorporated, were added to the index.

On May 19, 2008, then-AeA and The NASDAQ Stock Market, a subsidiary of the NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc, officially unveiled the NASDAQ OMX AeA Illinois Tech Index, the first state-wide public technology index in the U.S., developed to promote Illinois' leading technology companies and outstanding technology resources. The index is a public-private partnership supported by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Grant Thornton LLP, Baker & McKenzie, and the Illinois Biotechnology Industry Organization (iBIO), and tracks all public companies headquartered in Illinois from major sectors including high tech manufacturing, information technology, biotech, alternative fuels, and life sciences.
The NASDAQ OMX AeA Illinois Tech Index is a market capitalization-weighted index that began with a base value of 1000.00. Since its inception the index value has decreased in value by 10 percent, but has shown positive momentum over the past year with an increase in value of 7.4 percent despite the turbulent economy.
As of November 5, 2010, there were fifty companies listed on the Illinois Tech Index (ILTI) with a combined market value of nearly $271 billion. There were several constituent deletions and additions in 2010. Significant events included the acquisition of Life Quotes, Inc. by LQ Acquisition Inc., acquisition of ATC Technology Corporation by GENCO Distribution System, Inc., and the addition of Merge Healthcare Incorporated (NASDAQ (GM): MRGE ) and John Bean Technologies Corporation (NYSE: JBT) to the index.
The top ten index constituents include: Abbott Laboratories 29 percent; Boeing Company (The) 19.2 percent; Baxter International Inc. 11.1 percent; Illinois Tool Works Inc. 9 percent; Archer-Daniels-Midland Company 7.4 percent; Motorola, Inc. 7 percent; Hospira Inc. 3.6 percent; IDEX Corporation 1.1 percent; Allscripts Healthcare Solutions Inc. 1 percent; and Tellabs, Inc. 1 percent.
