TechAmerica Foundation Names Moran and Udall Senate Legislators of the Year
WASHINGTON, June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- TechAmerica Foundation announced that Senators Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Tom Udall (D-NM) will jointly receive the association's award for Senate Legislators of the Year. The award will be presented at TechAmerica Foundation's Technology & Government Dinner on June 12.
Last December, Senators Moran and Udall introduced a bipartisan bill that would require the first major overhaul of the government IT procurement process in over a decade. The Federal IT Savings, Accountability and Transparency Act would help to modernize the government's computer and technology systems. In the process, the bill would cut waste to save billions in taxpayer funds and prevent management and accountability problems that have plagued various federal IT initiatives. Beyond introducing this legislation, the Senators formed the Senate IT Reform Working Group, a bipartisan effort that brings industry together with government to discuss how best to reform federal IT acquisition. This award reflects a commitment to federal IT demonstrated by the legislation and the formation of the working group.
Since joining the U.S. Senate in 2010, Sen. Moran also has been a leading advocate for issues related to entrepreneurship, job creation and innovation. Prior to the Senate, he served seven terms in the House and eight years in the Kansas State Senate. He currently serves on the committees for Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; Appropriations; and Veterans' Affairs.
Udall began serving as United States Senator in 2009, after two decades of public service in the House and as New Mexico's State Attorney General. He serves on five committees as New Mexico's senior senator: Appropriations, Foreign Relations, Environment and Public Works (EPW), Indian Affairs, and Rules and Administration.
Held in the Ronald Reagan Building, the Technology & Government Dinner brings together industry, Congressional and government leaders to celebrate the partnership between the tech sector and government. The dinner also will honor Dr. J.P. London, CACI executive chairman and chairman of the board, with the Corporate Leadership Award; U.S. CIO Steven VanRoekel as the Government Technology Executive of the Year; and Rep. Michael McCaul as the House Legislator of the Year.
