CLEARWATER, Fla., Nov. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Tech Data (Nasdaq: TECD) today announced that Angela ("Angie") McCourt, the company's vice president, Cisco Solutions Group, has been honored as one of the top female leaders in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) by STEMconnector™ for 2017. McCourt is featured in STEMconnector's annual 100 Corporate Women Leaders in STEM publication.
A dedicated advocate for STEM education and careers within Tech Data's communities, McCourt leads STEM initiatives for students of all ages. Earlier this year, she helped lead the fifth Exploratory Lab Boot Camp for college students in the Tampa Bay area. The weeklong program, which McCourt co-founded and designed in partnership with Tampa Bay Tech and other local companies and universities, teaches technology skills to non-IT majors and has enabled 110 students to pursue careers in technology since its inception in 2014. McCourt also serves as Girls Inc. of Pinellas County's STEM Woman of the Year event fundraiser and was instrumental in raising funds for the organization's Tech Data/Cisco Systems STEM Lab, which was built in 2015. Most recently, she was part of the advisory board for the American Heart Association's Go Red for STEM event, taking place today at Tech Data's corporate headquarters in Clearwater, Fla. The daylong event will provide STEM breakout sessions and mentoring for approximately 100 local middle school-aged girls.
"Angie's exemplary leadership and commitment to building an award-winning, innovative team in support of one of Tech Data's largest and most strategic vendor partners are rivaled only by her passionate commitment to advancing STEM education in our communities," said Bob Dutkowsky, chairman and CEO, Tech Data. "Angie embodies Tech Data's commitment to preparing both our IT channel partners and our community partners for the next generation of technology. We are proud to salute her on this well-deserved recognition and appreciate her continued contributions to Tech Data's success."
McCourt's inspiration in STEM education began nine years ago while volunteering to teach her first Junior Achievement "JA Day" program to her son's class. Every year since, she has led Tech Data's volunteer efforts for JA Days at local elementary schools. Last year, Tech Data's efforts touched nearly 700 students through 42 volunteers at four schools.
McCourt has served as Vice President, Cisco Solutions Group at Tech Data since September 2010. Under her leadership, Tech Data received Cisco's Global and U.S. Distributor of the Year awards in 2014 and 2016, as well as numerous other awards. Additionally, McCourt was responsible for the implementation of Tech Data's IoT practice in the Americas. She was named one of CRN's Power 100 Women of the Channel in 2011, a Business Woman of the Year by the Tampa Bay Business Journal and the Technology Leader of the Year by Tampa Bay Tech in 2014, one of CRN's Channel Chiefs in 2015 and 2017, and one of Industry Week's 25 Most Influential Women in IoT in 2016. A 17-year company veteran, she also serves on Tech Data's Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Board, as well as the Board of Directors of the St. Petersburg College (SPC) Foundation.
The 100 Corporate Women Leaders in STEM list highlights the careers and initiatives of the most active role models who are helping to address America's shortage of female STEM professionals. The publication features profiles of these leaders, as well as editorials including data and perspectives about women in STEM. The 2017 list of 100 Corporate Women in STEM is available online here.
