WASHINGTON, May 7, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Teamsters Airline Division has pledged its support of contract workers at Alaska Airlines who are fighting for fair wages and union representation. The contract workers picketed outside airports across country today in an effort to raise public awareness of their fight.
Contract airport workers employed by Alaska Airlines' contractors move passengers' luggage, clean the planes and provide wheelchair assistance to passengers in need. These contractors include Menzies Aviation, BAGS, DGS, Huntleigh and Aviation Safeguards.
"We fully support the movement to raise all airport employees' wages and benefits, including the men and women at Alaska Airlines fighting for a union," said Capt. David Bourne, Director of the Teamsters Airline Division. "There is no reason why anyone who works in this industry should be denied livable wages and benefits. It is our duty to stand united with these workers in their fight to raise standards."
