Sotheby's Hired Notorious Anti-Worker Lawyers to Help Destroy New York Jobs
NEW YORK, Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Teamster members protested the anti-union law firm Jackson Lewis, which was hired by Sotheby's Auction House [NYSE: BID] to help outsource good, middle-class jobs, yesterday. Protests took place at the law firm's New York and Philadelphia offices.

The workers, who are represented by Teamsters Local 814 in Long Island City, N.Y., distributed leaflets that read, "Jackson Lewis Kills Jobs," along with a link to the website www.SothebysBadForArt.com. They also held banners that read, "Jackson Lewis Creates Misery for Sotheby's Workers."
Sotheby's locked out its staff of 43 art handlers in July; the workers, most of whom are minorities, have been without paychecks ever since. The auction house hired Jackson Lewis to attempt to starve its workers into giving up their job security and accepting wage cuts.
Despite earning record profits—Sotheby's made $774 million last year and near doubled its CEO's pay—the company wants to cut wages and permanently replace its professional art handlers with inexperienced, outsourced workers.
Teamster members and their supporters have been protesting Sotheby's greed at major auctions in New York, London, Hong Kong and Melbourne to inform the public about the company's treatment of its American workers and communities.
Founded in 1903, the Teamsters Union represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Visit www.teamster.org for more information.
