Hoffa, who attended the ceremony at the White House, said he was especially pleased that the bill spurs public works projects. It also gives modest tax breaks for employers that hire people who've been out of a job.
"This is another step toward easing the terrifying economic insecurity that is plaguing working families," Hoffa said.
"I'm pleased that our elected representatives cooperated to try to help the millions of Americans who want a full time job but can't find one. I hope Congress will continue to find ways to get our economy moving so more people can support themselves and their families.
"When Wall Street can't provide enough credit and capital to stimulate the economy, the government has to step in. I'm glad that President Obama understands this important government function."
