DENVER, Aug. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tonight, Teamsters in Denver attending the Teamsters Hispanic Caucus Convention went to the Colorado Rockies game to educate Denver residents about the illegal actions of Republic Services.
Republic Services picks up trash in Colorado and owns two landfills near Denver. In addition to violating the rights of workers around the country, Republic has not been a good neighbor in many communities.
At Republic's West Lake Landfill in Missouri, an underground fire grows closer to 8,700 tons of illegally buried radioactive nuclear waste. Nearby residents have had to evacuate their homes and the state attorney general is suing Republic over several environmental violations.
The worst landfill fire in history—at Republic's Countywide Landfill in Ohio—is still burning nine years later. Republic paid a $10 million fine, and a lawsuit involving 800 plaintiffs was settled last year.
