Federal Contractor Cuts Pay, Raises Insurance Costs After Taking Over Contract
FORT IRWIN, Calif., Jan. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Teamsters that provide logistical and warehousing support for the men and women who serve at the Fort Irwin National Training Center are fighting an effort by One Solutions Industries to deny the wages and benefits guaranteed to the workers under their collective bargaining agreement.
Solutions One Industries (SOI) was awarded the federal contract that covers the 23 members of Teamsters Local 166 on Nov. 1, 2015. Since taking over operations, SOI has refused to recognize the union that has been in place for more than 20 years and has cut wages by $2 an hour and increased health care costs by an average of $500 per month.
"Since coming here, our members at Fort Irwin have been subjected to a blatant anti-union agenda from Solutions One Industries," said Jason Hodge, Local 166 Vice President and business agent for the group. "It is unconscionable to treat these hard-working men women in this manner. They are proud to support our troops at Fort Irwin, but Solutions One seems to only want to bust the union and drive the workers away from the job they love."
Solutions One, headquartered in Killeen, Texas, also holds a federal contract that covers workers at Fort Hood. Teamsters Local 166 has filed multiple unfair labor practice charges against the company with the National Labor Relations Board and Department of Labor.
Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.4 million hardworking men and women throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The union is an active partner in the Helmets to Hardhats program which connects National Guard, Reserve, retired and transitioning active-duty military service members with skilled training and quality career opportunities in the construction industry.
