WASHINGTON, Jan. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Teamsters Union applauds President Donald Trump's issuance of executive orders today that will advance the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline (KXL) and the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), creating thousands of good union jobs.
"The construction of the KXL and Dakota pipelines will help put thousands of Americans, including Teamster members, to work. We are pleased with this decision to move forward on these long overdue projects that will support working families and increase our energy security," said Jim Hoffa, Teamsters General President.
The KXL Pipeline is projected to create more than 42,000 American jobs. The DAPL is a $3.78 billion investment in U.S. infrastructure, employing 8,000-12,000 Americans.
The KXL Pipeline system in the U.S. and Canada was initially proposed in 2008. Both the KXL and DAPL pipelines have undergone an exhaustive review process. The pipelines will employ thousands of workers under a project labor agreement, and will be constructed under the strictest standards to protect the environment.
The Teamsters Union prioritizes the creation of good jobs through much-needed infrastructure development. In 2015, the union unveiled its "Let's Get America Working!" campaign to bring politicians from both sides of the aisle together to prioritize building, maintaining and repairing our nation's infrastructure, while creating middle class jobs.
"This is a major step toward putting more Americans to work, building the infrastructure that we need, and creating economic prosperity," Hoffa said.
