TUKWILA, Wash., Sept. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hundreds of Teamster warehouse workers will meet in Tacoma on Saturday to take part in a multi-state consumer action aimed at educating Fred Meyer customers in Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington about the company's attempt to degrade workers' health care plans and outsource good, family-wage jobs.
As a part of Saturday's action, the Teamsters will also be talking to consumers about the mistreatment of workers and animals on the dairy farms that supply Fred Meyer's milk.
Warehouse workers will leaflet customers at dozens of Fred Meyer stores in western Washington. They will be joined by farmworkers, grocery clerks, and community members who will handbill at Fred Meyer and QFC stores in eastern Washington as well as in Alaska, Oregon, and Idaho.
Together, the groups form the Farm to Family Coalition, an association of labor, faith, environmental and organic food activists aimed at promoting food safety and workplace justice across the supply chain.
