TeamHealth Names National Director of Scribe Services
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- TeamHealth, one of the largest suppliers of outsourced healthcare professional staffing and administrative services to hospitals and other healthcare providers in the United States, today announced that it has named Kelly O'Callaghan as National Director of Scribe Services.
In this newly created role, O'Callaghan is responsible for oversight of the nationwide operation of TeamHealth's growing number of scribe programs. Scribes are trained, non-clinical assistants who work directly with TeamHealth's affiliated physicians. As dictated by the physician, the scribes provide real-time documentation of the patient's visit, including but not limited to the history, physical examination findings, interpretation of diagnostics studies, procedures, progress of a patient's condition, and interactions with consultants. Scribes follow up on the status of pending orders so that all pertinent data is ready for physician review, helping the physician remain focused on treating patients.
"By handling the administrative work of documentation, scribes support physicians in spending more time interacting with patients rather than entering information into a computer," O'Callaghan said. "Not only does that help physicians work more efficiently, it also supports a more satisfying interaction between the physician and the patient."
O'Callaghan comes to the role after more than five years with TeamHealth as a Program Director for Clinical Information Managers (CIM), and as a Client Services Manager for TeamHealth.
"Kelly's skills and experience, both on the technical side with clinical information systems and in working to develop and maintain client relationships, make her a natural fit for this role," said David Grinbergs, D.O., FACEP, President, TeamHealth Emergency Medicine. "We're extremely excited to have her coordinating our nationwide scribe services efforts."
