TeamHealth Names Miles S. Snowden, M.D., as New Chief Medical Officer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- TeamHealth Holdings Inc. (NYSE: TMH), one of the nation's largest providers of outsourced physician staffing solutions for hospitals, announced the appointment of Miles S. Snowden, M.D., MPH, as the company's chief medical officer effective September 15, 2014. Dr. Snowden is replacing Gar LaSalle, M.D., who retired from this position earlier this year.

With 30 years of clinical leadership experience, Dr. Snowden is a strategic advisor and innovator for physicians, hospitals, and payers seeking successful development and participation in new business models. In his most recent position as CMO for Optum, the health services division of UnitedHealth Group, Dr. Snowden provided clinical oversight of the company's development and distribution of healthcare technology, services, and consulting designed to assist Optum's physician, hospital, life sciences, government, and payer clients in making informed healthcare decisions, preventing illness, gaining operational efficiency, and maximizing financial performance. As a member of the executive clinical leadership team of UnitedHealth Group, he represented the enterprise in industry venues, as well as with leaders of organized medicine, clients, regulators, legislators, and investors. Prior to this role, Dr. Snowden led national clinical product development, delivery, and consulting for the commercial business with United Healthcare while concurrently leading the company's southeast region client management organization.
Prior to his work at UnitedHealth Group, Dr. Snowden served as CMO at Delta Air Lines, where he managed global healthcare benefits for more than 180,000 individuals. Earlier in his career, he spent 14 years in the private practice of Internal Medicine in Louisville, Ky. While in private practice, he founded an occupational health consulting business, and served as its medical director.
Dr. Snowden obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Louisville, and he completed his medical residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and also the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
