Team Lake Nona Moves Ahead at First Round of Tavistock Cup
Lake Nona enters second round with 6-4 lead
ORLANDO, Fla., March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Team Lake Nona seized an early lead over Team Isleworth with a two-point advantage during the first day of competition at the 2010 Tavistock Cup.
Peter Hanson and Graeme McDowell earned two points for Team Lake Nona against Arjun Atwal and Lee Janzen of Team Isleworth in the Fourball Medal Match Play format of Round 1 with a score of 65.
Retief Goosen and Henrik Stenson landed two points for Team Lake Nona against Brian Davis and Charles Howell III of Team Isleworth with a score of 64.
With a score of 65, Team Lake Nona's Ian Poulter and Justin Rose captured the final match of the day against Team Isleworth's J.B. Holmes and Nick O'Hern.
Robert Allenby and Stuart Appleby picked up two points for Team Isleworth with a score of 67, topping Team Lake Nona's Ernie Els and Trevor Immelman.
Team Isleworth's Mark O'Meara and John Cook overtook Ben Curtis and Ross Fisher from Team Lake Nona with a score of 68.
Retief Goosen won the Old Mutual Long Drive Challenge on Hole #7 with a drive measuring 269 yards.
Round 2 will be a Fourball Singles Medal Match Play format. Each player in the group plays an 18-hole stroke play singles match against each of the opposing two players; therefore, each player plays two singles matches. A win is worth 1 point, a tie is worth a 1/2 point, and a loss is worth 0 points. In total, there will be 20 points awarded for Round 2. As a result, it will take 15 1/2 points to win the Tavistock Cup and be crowned World Golf and Country Club Champion.
In its seventh year, the Tavistock Cup pits the touring professional golf members of Isleworth Golf & Country Club against those at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club.
Round 2 coverage of the Tavistock Cup will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT Tuesday.
