Team Full Tilt's Gus Hansen Wins His First WSOP Bracelet
DUBLIN, September 28, 2010 /PRNewswire/ --
- WSOP Europe Win Earns The Great Dane $451,880
Team Full Tilt member Gus Hansen picked up his first WSOP bracelet by winning the High-Roller No-Limit Hold 'em Heads Up Championship at WSOP Europe in London. Hansen pocketed the top prize of GBP288,409 ($451,880).
Having amassed tournament winnings of $7.1 million, Hansen is one of the most successful poker players in the world - yet a WSOP bracelet remained elusive. He described winning his first bracelet as 'getting a monkey off my back'.
Hansen beat Jim Collopy in a best of three heads-up challenges. With the series tied at 1-1, both players went into the final match on Sunday night, and, after four hours of play, Collopy moved all in with K-4. Hansen called and his pocket fours held strong to win him the tournament.
The GBP10,000 buy-in tournament was the fourth title event held at WSOP Europe this year and attracted 103 players, including Team Full Tilt members Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson and Howard Lederer.
To win the championship, Hansen had to go through seven rounds of heads-up matches, beating his fellow Team Full Tilt member Phil Ivey en route to the final.
