Team Colon Cancer Challenge Gears up for NYC Marathon
2012 Marks the Third Year the CCCF is an Official Charity Partner
NEW YORK, Oct. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation (CCCF), a nonprofit dedicated to reducing colorectal cancer incidence and death, announced that it is a New York Road Runners official charity partner for the 2012 ING New York City Marathon. This is the third year the CCCF has entered a team in the race, which will be held on November 4, 2012.
Each member of Team Colon Cancer Challenge has pledged to make their miles count by raising funds to support the CCCF's mission of a world without colorectal cancer. These donations will assist with the CCCF's goal of raising $1 million in 2012 to fund screening programs for the uninsured and support young researchers who are committed to finding a cure for colorectal cancer. To date, the team has raised a total of more than $30,000.
Each of the team's 16 runners brings a personal connection to colon cancer, through family members, friends and loved ones. Vered Frank, the team's leading fundraiser, lost both her mother and her aunt to colon cancer. Team captain Mike Redmond will be running the marathon for the third year in a row in memory of his mother, who lost her battle with colon cancer four years ago.
"We are honored to be part of the 2012 ING New York City Marathon again this year and are incredibly proud of Team Colon Cancer Challenge," said Cindy Borassi, Director of Communications of the CCCF. "Every one of these men and women bring a remarkable commitment to our cause and each mile they run brings us one step closer to our own finish line – a world without colorectal cancer."
