More than 15,000 Team CIBC members helped raise funds to support breast cancer research, treatment and advocacy programs
TORONTO, Oct. 6, 2014 /CNW/ - CIBC (TSX: CM) (NYSE: CM) is proud to announce that on Sunday, October 5, more than 15,000 employees, family and friends either ran, walked or volunteered in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure, raising almost $3 million.
"The dedication of our employees to create a future without breast cancer is a part of our culture at CIBC," says Christina Kramer, CIBC's Executive Vice-President and Executive Run Sponsor. "From raising awareness about breast cancer during Think Pink Week to finding creative ways to fundraise to volunteering at Run sites across the country, Team CIBC joined Canadians from coast-to-coast to make the 2014 CIBC Run for a Cure campaign a great success."
This year, CIBC also presented the Wall of Hope, where thousands of Canadians shared inspiring words and tributes, at every Run site, online, and at CIBC branches across the country.
"Thousands of Canadians joined together to inspire hope by participating in the CIBC Run for the Cure," says Jane Parsons, co-CEO of Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. "Whether walking or running, volunteering or donating, these individuals united to form a community of support. And this support is bringing us one step closer to our vision of creating a future without breast cancer."
As part of an integrated campaign with Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, CIBC also helped share stories of real women and families affected by breast cancer to raise awareness and inspire Canadians. The social media video In Her Shoes, told the emotional personal story of Anne Wood, breast cancer survivor and champion fundraiser for the cause, showing how one diagnosis has the power to change a person's life. In the companion video, In Her Shoes: Behind the Scenes, Anne talks about why raising funds through the CIBC Run for the Cure is still so critical.
Anne was a special guest at this year's Think Pink Week event held in Toronto, where she was honoured by CIBC Chief Executive Officer Victor Dodig and hundreds of CIBC employees as she placed the inaugural message of inspiration on the Wall of Hope.
Team CIBC helped CBCF raise a total of $25 million from this year's event through pledges, fundraising initiatives and the 2014 CIBC Pink Collection™.
