Teachers Invited to Workshop on Zika Prevention and Using Insects in the Classroom

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- School teachers from Florida and other states are invited to attend a workshop on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida (Rooms W2224 G&H in the west concourse of the center). STEMbugs, a workshop for primary and secondary school educators, will show teachers how to develop new lesson plans involving the use of insects in the classroom as teaching tools.

Topics will include:

• The biology and behavior of mosquitoes, and what students can do to prevent Zika and other diseases that are transmitted by them.
• How to incorporate insects into lesson plans and curriculums.
• Citizen science projects involving bees and other beneficial pollinators.

STEMbugs attendees will receive:

• A plenary talk on the importance and ease of using insects in the classroom as biological models.
• Participation in two one-hour educational sessions on using insects in the classroom as hands-on learning projects.
