Teacher Responds to Hard Economic Times for Educators
Melanie Bondy publishes affordable real world projects that promote student growth
LAWTON, Mich., Jan. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Former teacher turned author and publisher, Melanie Bondy sees the effects of educational funding shortages first hand. Bondy routinely travels nationwide to speak at state conferences and consult for school districts.
"I interact directly with educators and school administrators, and I see the effect that the economy has on our children's education. Teachers are excited to implement innovative forward-thinking programs for their students, but funding is often an obstacle," remarks Bondy.
Bondy is the creator of popular independent study programs called Envision. Her first program was published in 2007. By 2010, Bondy had published two additional Envision programs. The Envision programs are available for grades three, four and five, and are being used by students in grades two through eight.
"I created Envision for my fifth grade students when I was teaching. At the time, there were no high quality programs for students who needed challenge beyond the regular curriculum. Envision was my solution for students to be inspired by real-world projects daily all school year long."
Bondy's program had seen great success and is now being used in more than 25 states. Students in school districts across the nation are creating real-world projects that are in-depth and relevant to them personally, thanks to Envision.
With tough economic times, though, Bondy has seen teachers use their own money to purchase her materials. Recently, she observed two teachers pooling their lunch money and personal money to purchase one copy of Envision to share. As a business owner and former teacher, Bondy empathizes with their plight and tries to offer her products at the most affordable prices possible.
"I've kept Envision prices firm since 2007 and try to run specials as often as I can. My mission is to inspire student growth and provide teachers with the best tools to do so," Bondy comments.
In recent times, Bondy realized she needed to do more for schools. In response to the hard economic times, Bondy has now published her curriculum materials in smaller chunks. Her original programs each contain four independent study projects; enough to last one school year. Her newly released Envision Career Aspiration, Backyard Getaway and Pet Parade are now sold as separate projects, which last one quarter of the school year and come with a much lower price tag.
"My hope is that schools, teachers and parents will now be able to afford top-notch educational materials. The projects are concise yet thorough, and each project is designed to inspire students to set goals for their future."
Mind Vine Press, Bondy's company, still offers her original Envision programs, but now there are additional, more affordable options.
