TDS names Thomas S. Weber vice president of internal audit
CHICAGO, April 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. (NYSE: TDS) today announced that Thomas S. Weber has been appointed vice president of internal audit. He succeeds Frieda E. Ireland, who is retiring after 13 years with the Company, effective May 1, 2016.
Weber joined TDS' subsidiary, U.S. Cellular in 1992 and has held a number of U.S. Cellular roles including vice president and controller and principal accounting officer in 2002; vice president of financial strategy in 2005; and most recently vice president of financial and real estate services in 2010.
"Tom brings a breadth of financial knowledge and operational experience to this role," said LeRoy T. Carlson, Jr., president and CEO of TDS. "Tom will continue to maintain and develop the high-quality team, relationships and control programs that Frieda established, and his leadership will result in ongoing enhancements to our audit processes."
Prior to joining U.S. Cellular, Weber held various financial and accounting positions with Chrysler Corporation. Weber, a certified public accountant earned a BS from DePaul University and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Weber will report directly to the TDS and U.S. Cellular Audit Committees and administratively to LeRoy T. Carlson, Jr.
Since joining TDS in 2003, Ireland directed the company's internal audit function and coordinated with both TDS' and U.S. Cellular's Audit Committees in the performance of its corporate oversight role.
