"We're incredibly excited about the upcoming grand opening celebrations of our two new green stores in Bangor and Portland," said Larry World, Maine Market President, TD Bank. "As a company, we have a lot to be proud about this week. Learning that the Auburn Call Center achieved LEED-CI Platinum certification is a tremendous accomplishment for TD Bank, our employees, our customers and the community."
The two new stores, which have been built based on TD Bank's new green prototype store design standard, are located at 878 Stillwater Avenue in Bangor and at 1410 Congress Street in Portland. The stores will target LEED certification based on their overall environmental performance in five areas: the use of sustainable sites, low water usage, energy efficiency, recycled materials and resource use, and indoor environmental air quality.
"In 2010 we became the largest U.S.-based bank to be carbon neutral by building LEED-certified stores and offices, and making continuous significant investments in renewable energy," said Jacquelynn Henke, TD Bank's Real Estate Green Strategy Officer. "Achieving LEED-CI Platinum certification for our Auburn Call Center is a win for the environment and a win for TD Bank's sustainability initiative."
The grand opening celebrations for the two new stores will take place on Saturday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at both locations. The opening parties are free and open to the public, and will feature:
- DJ and music
- Free food and giveaways
- Games and prizes, including a chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree
- Ribbon cutting ceremony at noon (12 p.m.) with donation presentations to local organizations from the TD Charitable Foundation
TD Bank's Auburn Call Center, which opened on July 30, 2010, brought 250 new jobs to the Lewiston-Auburn region. Former Gov. John Baldacci, U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, and several other local elected officials attended the call center's opening ceremony. During their remarks, several dignitaries lauded the call center's state-of-the-art design, including a 40' x 40' skylight to provide abundant natural light and reduce lighting loads, and a 9-ton, mostly granite boulder that was mined from the Christian Hill Quarry in Auburn and which TD Bank installed as a testament to the bank's commitment to Maine.
The new stores will be TD Bank's 24th and 25th green locations across its Maine to Florida footprint. In May, the bank will also open the first net-zero energy bank branch in the U.S. A June 2010 report by the U.S. Department of Energy defined a net-zero energy building as a residential or commercial building that produces in a year as much renewable power as the total energy it uses.
TD Bank focuses on delivering legendary customer service by providing the longest banking hours in the markets it serves, hassle-free products, free online banking and bill pay at www.tdbank.com, and treats for kids and dogs.
