Based in Boston, Mass., Henke will oversee the continued implementation of the bank's green initiatives for its real estate operations from Maine to Florida. This includes the design and construction of the bank's stores using its new green prototype store design. She will also manage the LEED certification process for qualifying retail locations, regional headquarters, call centers and supporting offices throughout the TD Bank footprint. Henke will report to Gerry Guidice, Head of U.S. Real Estate, TD Bank.
"Jackie's extensive experience and knowledge in real estate sustainability development will enable us to build on our recent green accomplishments," said Guidice. "Now that TD Bank has achieved carbon neutrality footprint-wide and we've built 15 new environmentally-friendly offices in one year, we want to set higher goals for 2011 and make sure TD Bank is as green as its logo."
Last month, TD Bank received a 2010 Green Power Partner Leadership Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the bank's purchase of renewable energy credits to meet 100 percent of the bank's electricity needs. Earlier this year, the bank partnered with its parent company, TD Bank Financial Group, to become participating members of paper manufacturer Boise Inc.'s Closed Loop System™, a paper recycling program that guarantees at least 1,500 metric tons of paper from TD's operations in Canada and the U.S. is diverted from landfills and used in the production of recycled office paper. TD then purchases the recycled paper for use in its operations – hence the closed loop system.
Prior to joining TD Bank, Henke was the sustainability manager and a senior project manager for Harvard University's Allston Development Group. While at Harvard, she worked to achieve sustainability goals for the University's planned projects in its Allston Campus expansion and she also co-chaired the committee that updated the University's green building standards. Before Harvard, she was the director of sustainability and a vice president at Colliers Meredith & Grew, and a project engineer and superintendent with Turner Construction.
Henke's expertise has also been recognized by her peers in sustainability, real estate and business having been elected chair of the upper northeast regional council of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Within the USGBC, she's also been elected as a member of its national chapter steering committee and was a member of the board that chartered USGBC's Massachusetts chapter. In 2009, she received the Professional Service Award given by New England Women in Real Estate, an organization whose mission is to build bonds between women who are professionally engaged in commercial real estate and related services. She also received the Boston Business Journal's 40 Under 40 Distinction of Professionals award in 2008.
Henke earned a Bachelor of Science in architectural design, a Master of Architecture and a Master of Science in civil engineering, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a USGBC LEED accredited professional with a specialization in Building Design + Construction.
