CHERRY HILL, N.J. and PORTLAND, Maine, Nov. 2, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank®, enjoys rewarding kids for keeping their reading levels sharp during the summer months through its annual Summer Reading Program. During the 2010 Summer Reading program a record number of children, 32,000, from Maine to Florida avoided the summer reading slide and read 10 books to earn $10 bucks!

TD Bank's Summer Reading Program provides a goal for young people to read and learn the importance of saving and money. TD Bank contributes $10 into a new or existing Young Saver account for each child who reads 10 books throughout the summer.

According to educators, summer reading is critical in continuing good academic performance and advancing literacy skills. Studies show that children who read several books during the summer maintain or surpass the reading skills they achieved during the previous school year. James Kim, an assistant education professor at Harvard University, claims students who read four or more books over the summer do better than those who didn't when they return to school in the fall.
