Tuesday night's awards gala at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto was dominated by TD. Besides winning the grand prix for best overall IR – large cap, TD nabbed seven more trophies to win a record-breaking eight awards in one evening, including best IR by a CEO – large cap for Edmund Clark and best IR by a CFO – large cap for Colleen Johnston.
More impressively, 2013 marks the third year in a row that TD has won the grand prix for large-cap companies. The same winning streak was achieved by Clark and Johnston, who both won IR Magazine Awards in 2011, 2012 and now again in 2013.
Rogers Communications' Bruce Mann managed to prevent TD from winning every award category in which it was nominated by winning best investor relations officer – large cap. This is the third time Mann has taken the honor, having previously won in 2011 and 2007. This year, Rogers was a double winner with another award for best in sector – technologies.
Among the mid-cap companies, the grand prix for best overall IR went to Bombardier, another double winner with best in sector – industrials. Among the small-cap companies, the grand prix for best overall IR went to first-time nominee Genivar, whose CEO Pierre Shoiry was named Best IR by a CEO – small cap. For a full list of winners in all award categories, please see below.
Now in their 16th year, the IR Magazine Awards -- Canada are the result of intensive and painstaking research to identify the best IR at Canada's public companies and to provide a window into the thinking of IR's most important audience: the investment community. From a representative sample, weighted for Canada's industry sectors, researchers conducted in-depth interviews with 250 portfolio managers and analysts across Canada. The company with the highest score in a particular award category was declared the winner.
The IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2013 were sponsored by Annan & Sons, Bloomberg, Broadridge, Business Wire, CCR Solutions, CIRI (Canadian IR Institute), CNW, Computershare/Georgeson, CST Phoenix Advisors, The Globe and Mail, Ipreo, Kingsdale Shareholder Services, Laurel Hill Advisory Group, Marketwire, NASDAQ OMX Group, Nexen, OTC Markets Group, The Works Design Communications and TMX Group.
