The growth was mainly attributable to its strong sales performance in the North American market as well as other key markets worldwide.
TCL further expanded its business with increasing sales channels and active engagement in branding campaigns. In the first quarter of 2017, TCL ranked third in global shipments according to independent research house IHS. The company also ranked third in North America in the first quarter with a 13% market share in TV shipments in the market, as published by IHS. In terms of sales volume, TCL ranked No.4 in America with a year-on-year growth of 116% in May, according to NPD.
Besides, TCL dominates Amazon.com TV sales in the US, with the top five best-selling TVs being TCL products. TCL has proactively expanded its sales channels with increasing retail points at BestBuy, Wal-Mart, Target, Costco and Sam's Club.
TCL has gained popularity in North America due to its multiple sales channels and active engagement in branding campaigns with strategic partnerships, such as its sponsorships of NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, soccer team San Jose Earthquakes, Hollywood TCL Chinese Theatre and the Ellen Show.
In Europe, TCL debuted the C70 TV Series in major cities in France, Italy and Poland. The C70 comes with WCG true-to-life colors, HDR Pro producing unrivalled blacks and high contrast images with all details. It has a JBL high-class luxury sound system, and the latest Android M operating system.
In South Asia, C2 UHD Android TV, one of the key products from the TCL product line-up for 2017, received overwhelming response in Pakistan in the online pre-launch campaign which offered customers an exclusive pre-order at a special price. When the C2 UHD Android TV was launched in June, it sold out in the first week. TCL aligned with Daraz.pk, the largest online store in Pakistan, to concurrently run and advertise the campaign on its website. Both TCL and C2 gained popularity and the sale momentum has grown.
In Southeast Asia, TCL's product structure is leading the market. The penetration of Smart TVs, Big size TVs and Curved TVs is higher than the market average.
Apart from product launch, TCL joined forces with internet giant Tencent in developing the smart TV business. On 5 July 2017, FFalcon Technology Holdings Limited ("FFalcon"), a direct wholly owned subsidiary of TCL Multimedia together with Tencent Digital (Shenzhen) Company Limited ("Tencent Digital") held a strategic cooperation presentation in Shenzhen, China. The strategic cooperation between the two giants not only provides funding support for the development of the smart TV business, but also establishes a joint operation team for both parties. It will increase the business operation value for family entertainment through big TV screens, and deepen the cooperation in product upgrades and innovation, market resource synergies and membership coherence, so as to achieve a strategic cross-boundary complementary effect on resources.
In addition, China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), the world-leading enterprise in display technology owned by TCL, saw an increase of 29.5% YoY in LCD panel sales volumes in the second quarter of 2017. The sales area of LCD TV panels and modular products increased 31% YoY.
