TCL Chairman Tomson Li Dongsheng Speaks at SID
- A Look at the Trends Shaping the Global Display Industry
SHENZHEN, China, June 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- SID Display Week 2015, the global display industry's most influential annual event, officially kicked off on June 2, at San Jose Convention Center in the U.S. TCL Chairman and CEO Tomson Li Dongsheng attended the event, bringing the cutting-edge technologies and products from TCL Corporation's subsidiary CSOT (Shenzhen China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd.), along with his speech The Booming Display Industry in China which included an overview of the display industry, a look at the future trends of the industry, and a briefing on the development strategies of TCL Corporation and its subsidiary CSOT.
During the SID Display Week, the LCD panel maker of TCL Corporation CSOT has been in the spotlight with its showcase of the world's largest 110" Curved UHD LCD panel, thinnest LCD TV and thinnest curved LCD TV, drawing the acclaims from thousands. In addition to TVs, CSOT also displayed a 55'' super color gamut panel, the BLU technology of which offers 100% color gamut and the quantum dot technology of which enables super color gamut of 118% NTSC, 63% more than a normal LCD TV. CSOT also exhibited its three OLED products during SID, including 5.5" LTPS OLED PWM, 5.5" LTPS OLED and 31" OLED.
For the high-end panel makers such as CSOT, TCL Chairman and CEO Tomson Li Dongsheng addressed in his formal SID speech that he saw three major trends dominating the future development of the TV display industry - larger TVs, higher resolution and enhanced color saturation. According to Tomson Li, the average size of a TV has moved up from 32" to 43" in the Chinese market, and the demand for UHD products over the size of 55" has also grown rapidly in the recent years.
In terms of the development of high-end display technologies, Tomson Li mentioned his belief in the speech that Quantum Dot LED technology would play a vital role in the future. Highly expected to become the mainstream format for high-end large displays, QD-TVs such as TCL's quantum dot TVs, are already very popular in China, equally satisfactory as or even better than OLED TVs in many major performance indicators. As Tomson Li introduced during the speech, Chinese researchers have made impressive progress in the field of quantum-dot LED technology, getting 20.5% peak external quantum efficiency in the development of red quantum dot material and devices, with life time over 100,000 hours and driving voltage at 1.7 volts. TCL Corporation alone has already scored milestone achievements in the research on the material and technology of quantum dots.
In his SID speech, Tomson Li straightly predicted that the next generation of large-size display manufacturing would be the printed display of OLED technology. By replacing the vacuum evaporation technology, the printed display may achieve the flexible or rollabe process in mass production, thereby improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce the cost substantially. For the early realization of the mass production of printed display, Tomson Li advocated in the speech that global partners are welcomed to join hands with TCL Corporation to optimize the printed display technology, process and materials.
As an enterprise leader from China, Tomson Li referred to the country many times in his SID speech as a major growing market in the global display industry, and predicted it would continue being the most important driving force behind the world's economic growth. Headquartered in China, TCL Corporation is a global smart product manufacturer and internet application service provider, with the market shares of TVs and mobile phones ranked 4th and 6th respectively in the world in 2014. With the aim to become the world top three players in both industries, TCL Corporation has a huge need and high demand for display panels, which leads to its long-term commitment to enhance CSOT's competitiveness. In the speech at SID, Tomson Li said that the strategic goal of TCL Corporation in the power of display is to keep improving the operational capacity of CSOT and build the leadership in efficiency, product, technology and ecosystem, expecting CSOT as an leading benchmarking in the global display market.
