TCI...The College of Technology Opens College Site in Harlem at St. Luke A.M.E. Church Administrative Building
NEW YORK, July 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A unique new college initiative between TCI…The College of Technology and St. Luke A.M.E. Church was announced today. Starting September 8, 2011, TCI is establishing a college site at the St. Luke A.M.E. Church Center.
"The congregation of St. Luke A.M.E. Church is focused on being 'A Ministry of Teaching, Reaching and Preaching,'" said its Pastor, Rev. Melvin E. Wilson. "Partnering with TCI further complements our purpose that includes providing programs which will enhance the entire social development of all people."
"College will be more readily accessible to Harlem community residents without the limitations of having to travel because of their time restrictions, job demands, disabilities or family constraints," said Dr. John J. "Through this initiative, TCI is helping to address the higher than average community unemployment rates by bringing career focused, hands-on college level education to Harlem."
TCI's Main Campus is located in mid-town Manhattan across the street from Penn Station. This new college site in Harlem at St. Luke A.M.E. Church's Administrative building will give hands on training and support services to the community. TCI is accredited by the New York State Board of Regents and by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The College was founded in 1909 by Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi and awards Associate Degrees in 21 Academic Programs. TCI serves approximately 4,500 students from 52 countries, which gives it the distinction of being the second largest two-year private college in the New York metropolitan area.
For the past 11 years Community College Week has ranked TCI as one of the top two year colleges in America. In their most recent survey for the 2009-2010 academic year TCI Ranked #3 in the Nation for two-year institutions in the awarding of Associate Degrees in Computer & Information Sciences & Support Services and also #3 in the Nation in the awarding of Associate Degrees for Engineering Technologies.
