TBM Council Empowers IT Leaders With New Standards, Education Program And Collaboration Opportunities

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Technology Business Management (TBM) Council, a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and promoting best practices for managing IT like a business, today introduced an updated version of its TBM Taxonomy and the launch of a TBM Executive Foundational Certification program. Featured at the fourth-annual TBM Conference, these initiatives are designed to further the organization's mission of TBM excellence through collaboration, standardization and education.

As a result of this work, the TBM Council has increased its membership base significantly over the past year, growing to include more than 3,100 IT and finance leaders.

TBM Taxonomy 2.0

Developed by a TBM Council-appointed Standards Committee, and endorsed by the TBM Council Board of Directors, TBM Taxonomy provides a standard costing model for IT services like public cloud, SaaS applications, compute and storage. The updated release of TBM Taxonomy 2.0 expands IT's view of business services, specifically cloud. When implemented, TBM Taxonomy 2.0 provides IT leaders with an enterprise-wide technology business model, suggested "CIO metrics" to measure performance over time, a baseline for benchmarking and the collective wisdom of some of IT's most prominent leaders.

The Standards Committee is led by CIOs in order to develop the long-term strategic vision for standards development within the IT industry. This body is led by two co-chairs, James LaPlaine, CIO of AOL, and Rahul Auradkar, VP of Products at Apptio. They are joined by 15 voting members from organizations like ADP, Aon, Arizona Public Services, Cisco, Cox Automotive, Edelman, ExxonMobil, Fannie Mae, Marriott, MasterCard, and MetLife, plus three non-voting members from the US General Services Administration, KPMG, and ISG.

TBM Executive Foundational Certification

The TBM Council also introduced its first-ever TBM certification program to all TBM Council members today. The TBM Executive Foundation course is specifically tailored for senior IT, finance, or other business professionals who need to demonstrate a basic understanding of the TBM framework and how it can be used to improve business value, optimize IT spending, shape business demand for technology and better plan for the future. It is also a practical investment for professionals who have recently joined an organization or business unit that has adopted TBM and need to learn the fundamentals in order to contribute more actively to their team. This education program leverages the TBM Taxonomy and the TBM book, The Four Value Conversations CIOs Must Have With Their Business, as primary source materials.
