TB Alliance Names Angela Vanderploeg as Chief Financial Officer
Vanderploeg Brings Comprehensive Financial Management Experience to Help Guide Pursuit of Life-Saving New Tuberculosis Therapies
NEW YORK, July 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- TB Alliance today announced the appointment of Angela Vanderploeg as Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Vanderploeg joins TB Alliance most recently from New Leaders, an educational nonprofit, where she helped re-establish and grow the financial strength of the organization, driving gains in the organization's productivity.
In this new role, Ms. Vanderploeg will oversee all aspects of financial management for the TB Alliance in the pursuit of new and improved therapies for tuberculosis – the deadliest infectious disease in the world. As a not-for-profit, product development partnership, TB Alliance must manage an operating budget for activities traditionally associated with the discovery, development and delivery of novel pharmaceutical products while ensuring both short- and long-term financial sustainability. In addition, Ms. Vanderploeg will help build and maintain relationships with a variety of donors and partners around the world.
"I'm eager to apply my skills and experience to help enable an organization at the forefront of combating one of humanity's oldest, most persistent, and deadliest global health threats," said Ms. Vanderploeg.
Ms. Vanderploeg has spent the previous 25 years managing the finances of both small and large organizations, including non-profits, philanthropies, social service organizations, and in the financial services industry. Having led the implementation of systems and having grown the financial health of such organizations, Ms. Vanderploeg's experiences will be invaluable to TB Alliance as it moves closer to delivering new treatments for both drug-resistant and drug-sensitive tuberculosis.
"Investment in TB research and development has traditionally been meager in comparison to what it will take to end TB. Therefore, sound financial management and appropriate stewardship of the resources provided to organizations like TB Alliance are integral to our success," said Dr. Mel Spigelman, President and CEO of the TB Alliance. "We are excited for Ms. Vanderploeg to join the organization and help achieve our mission of transforming TB treatment for the millions who suffer each year."
Ms. Vanderploeg holds an MBA from New York University. She is also a CPA and spent several years at professional accounting firms earlier in her career.
