Tax Council Policy Institute's 13th Annual Symposium to Examine New Realities of Tax Risk Management
WASHINGTON, Nov. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Tax Council Policy Institute (TCPI) announced today that its 13th Annual Tax Policy & Practice Symposium will be held February 15-16, 2012, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C. The program is titled "The New Realities of Tax Risk Management: Navigating risk in a complex world." KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax, and advisory firm, will serve as program manager for the event.
"Tax risk has clearly moved to the forefront of the tax agenda as a result of the ever-changing global regulatory and legislative tax landscape and the changing dynamics of an increasingly competitive business environment," explained Lynda K. Walker, Esq., executive director and general counsel of TCPI. "As the world of tax has become more complex, tax executives are faced with the challenge of answering the competitive demands of their boards and shareholders while navigating tax risk effectively."
Walker said the two-day symposium will examine topics such as: managing the risk of fundamental tax reform; understanding how the government's perception of tax risk may drive guidance and enforcement; considering the possibility of a territorial tax system for multinational businesses; and the importance of reputational tax risk in today's global business environment.
The 13th annual symposium is aimed at CFOs, vice presidents of finance and tax, attorneys, accountants, and controllers from companies large and small, according to Hank Gutman, principal in charge of KPMG's Legislative and Regulatory Services and former chief of staff for the U.S. Congress Joint Committee on Taxation. Gutman has worked with TCPI's board and the leading tax experts comprising its planning committee to develop the symposium's agenda, drawing on his knowledge of current and expected regulatory pressures for business.
