Tavistock Cup adds new teams in 2013
Six clubs will vie for title of World Golf and Country Club Champion
ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Tavistock Cup returns to Isleworth Golf & Country Club this spring showcasing six teams for the first time in the tournament's history.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Tavistock Cup will add Oak Tree National and Primland golf clubs to the team competition, which already includes Albany, Isleworth, Lake Nona Golf & Country Club and Queenwood Golf Club. The PGA TOUR-sanctioned event will take place March 25 and 26, 2013 and air live on Golf Channel.
"Tavistock Cup is a unique tournament which has inspired excitement among golf enthusiasts and the pros themselves," said Andy Odenbach, Tavistock Cup tournament director. "The addition of Albany and Queenwood two years ago, and now Primland and Oak Tree, alongside the original teams of Isleworth and Lake Nona will undoubtedly bring together a strong field and set the stage for new spirited rivalries. We remain committed to finding ways to make this tournament an unforgettable experience for players and fans alike."
Oak Tree National, located in the countryside of Edmond, Oklahoma, has a history of golf excellence and has staged several major events, including the 1988 PGA Championship. Pete Dye's work on the golf course is consistently recognized as one of his best. Oak Tree National's team promises to have a strong connection with Oklahoma State's alumni roster.
Located in southwest Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, Primland is an eco-conscious and thoughtfully developed golf resort that features a magnificent golf course designed by noted European architect Donald Steel. Team Primland will carry a solid Wake Forest presence. Teams will be announced in March.
At the 2012 Tavistock Cup, Team Lake Nona celebrated its fourth straight victory to claim the title of World Golf and Country Club Champion. For the first time since the tournament's inception, the Payne Stewart Salver Award was shared by five participants who finished the final round at 5-under-par (67): Retief Goosen, Ross Fisher, Robert Allenby, Ernie Els and Thomas Bjorn. The Salver Award is given each year in memory of the former Isleworth member and late champion golfer Payne Stewart to the player with the lowest score in the final round.
Past Tavistock Cup participants have included Darren Clarke, Paula Creamer, Graeme McDowell, Sean O'Hair, Mark O'Meara, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Annika Sorenstam, Bubba Watson and Tiger Woods.
