CHANTILLY, Va., May 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year, TASC and its employees held employee fundraising events nationwide to mark Memorial Day, raising a total $26,000 that will be donated to Building Homes for Heroes. TASC employees raised $13,000, which the company matched dollar for dollar.
The funds will help build a home in Florida for Air Force Master Sergeant Joseph Deslauriers, who carried out two tours of duty in Afghanistan and served in Iraq, Kuwait and Kosovo. For his service, Deslauriers earned the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Joint Service and U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal, U.S. Air Force Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
"Memorial Day reminds us of the brave men and women who lost their lives to protect our nation," said TASC President and CEO John P. Hynes Jr. "We can think of no better way to honor their sacrifice than to contribute to improving the lives of wounded warriors and their families. We are proud to partner again this year with Building Homes for Heroes, so we can give something back to a veteran who has given so much to defend our security and freedom."
"We can't thank TASC and its employees enough for this remarkable contribution," said Andrew McClure, chief operating officer of Building Homes for Heroes. "Making a significant difference in the life of a veteran in need, especially at a time when our country honors those who gave their lives serving the country, is a tremendous act of patriotism. This donation will help the Deslauriers family out immensely."
The nationwide fundraiser was organized by TASC's young professionals' and veterans' employee groups. A fundraising picnic was held at TASC's headquarters in Chantilly, Va., on May 21. Other employee fundraising events held this month included a lunch in San Diego, a wear-jeans-to-work week in Andover, Mass., and an employee social in Lorton, Va. In 2013, TASC and its employees raised $22,000 for Building Homes for Heroes, which was used to help renovate the home of injured veteran Army Specialist Andrew Toppin and his family.
