Tarkett Publishes Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for Arcade™ Rubber Sheet Flooring and BaseWorks™ Thermoset Rubber Wall Base
Disclosure of Raw Materials and Production Processes Provides Transparency for Building Professionals
CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio, Dec. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tarkett, a global leader in innovative and sustainable flooring and sports surface solutions, has published Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for the Johnsonite Arcade™ Rubber Sheet Flooring and Johnsonite BaseWorks™ Thermoset Rubber Wall Base.
Product specific EPDs for Harmonium xf2™ Linoleum, Arcade™ Rubber Sheet Flooring and for BaseWorks™ Thermoset Rubber Wall Base, along with general EPDs for other Tarkett and Johnsonite products may be downloaded at www.johnsonite.com/sustainability/certifications. Together with Environmental Health Statements (EHS), EPDs allow manufacturers to meet the ever-increasing demands by architects, designers and the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for full disclosure of ingredients in the North American building products industry.
Much like product labels in the food industry, EPDs disclose product ingredients, potential impacts on the environment and factual, objective life cycle assessment (LCA) data to building professionals and consumers. In an EPD, the product information is provided within pre-set categories and parameters, in accordance with the international standard ISO 14025.
Johnsonite Arcade™ Rubber Sheet Flooring is manufactured in the USA in an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified plant. Arcade™ is FloorScore® certified and contributes to good indoor air quality. As part of the Tarkett ReStart™ Recycling and Reclamation Program, which allows for unadhered jobsite scraps to be collected and returned to the company to be repurposed for other products or uses, Arcade ultimately reduces the impact on landfill.
BaseWorks™ Thermoset Rubber Wall Base is manufactured in the company's Middlefield, Ohio plant, which is both ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 certified for high standards in environmental management and resource stewardship. BaseWorks™ is FloorScore certified for indoor air quality, with TVOC (total volatile organic compound) emissions below the limit of quantification. The product meets all the performance requirements in ASTM F-1861. BaseWorks™ Thermoset Rubber Wall Base contains natural mineral filler as well as 2.3 percent rapidly renewable content (by weight) and can help contribute toward obtaining Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) credits. It is also recyclable as part of the company's ReStart™ program.
Continued efforts to provide a complete product library of EPDs are part of Tarkett's commitment to transparency and best practices in sustainable growth. Tarkett promotes circular design, which is the foundation for its comprehensive offering of environmentally responsible products. The breadth of certifications, ranging from material use to manufacturing conditions, and from occupant health to end-of-use practices, ensures customers that Tarkett is focused on every aspect of sustainable production. As an extension of its commitment to transparency, Tarkett has recently published its first Corporate Responsibility Report.
