TAMPA, Fla., May 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the third consecutive year, Becker's Hospital Review, a national health care publication, has named Tampa General Hospital (TGH) one of the "100 Great Hospitals in America."
TGH is the only hospital on Florida's west coast – and one of only three in the state – to make the 2016 list.
The publication's website states selected hospitals are well known for a number of reasons, including having a strong history of innovation, providing top-notch patient care, leading clinical advancement with forward-thinking research or holding an irreplaceable spot in their communities. Ninety-four percent of the hospitals on the list are teaching hospitals.
Becker's noted Tampa General serves as the primary teaching hospital for the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, and that it is one of the largest hospitals in Florida, serving a dozen counties with a population in excess of 4 million people.
To develop the list, the publication's editorial team conducted research and examined several reputable hospital ranking sources, including U.S. News & World Report, Healthgrades, Truven Health Analytics, The Leapfrog Group and Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The listed hospitals are also considered overall health care leaders in their region, state or the nation.
The publication also cited Tampa General's U.S. News & World Report rankings, its Magnet status, its burn and trauma centers, and the success of its transplant program.
Becker's Hospital Review features up-to-date business and legal news and analysis relating to hospitals and health systems and is geared toward hospital leaders.
