Tampa Bay Artists Proclaim "Give Peace a Chance" on International Day of Peace
While allied forces gathered in preparation of war against terrorists in Syria and Iraq, another gathering took place in Tampa Bay for peace - an artists' celebration of International Peace Day.
CLEARWATER, Fla., Sept. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As war escalates in places like Syria, Iraq and The Ukraine, Artists Coalition of Tampa Bay gathered together at a celebration of International Peace Day at the Church of Scientology's Fort Harrison in downtown Clearwater on Sunday the 21st of September urging peace. President of the coalition, Larry Jaffe, declared, "Peace can still be achieved if artists use their skills to inspire and elevate our communities."
The coalition's Peace Day celebration featured the works of international artist Jim Warren, sculptress Nina Winters, award-winning painter Bula Barua, the whimsical Marcelle LaCour and Debra Kagan while Neal Fox, Nicky Baker, Jades Goudrealt, Emma Ashton and Hana-Li performed songs of peace for the guests. Larry Jaffe, who also performed his award-winning poetry and his wife Shelly organized the exhibit and performances to, "Promote the role of the artist in inspiring our communities to practice peace." Three works from the youth of The Community Learning Center, Washburn Academy and Delphi Academy which contained "Peace Symbols" were displayed as a backdrop to the speakers at the event.
Ms. Giselle Rodriquez, state coordinator for the Florida Coalition Against Human Trafficking, outlined how slavery is still being practiced throughout the world and that Tampa Bay is a key location for human trafficking - a barrier to peace.
According to Karla Dana, president of Youth for Human Rights of Florida, "Education of human rights also plays a part in creating peace."
A display of five biographical volumes depicting the artistic works and messages of L. Ron Hubbard, founder of the Scientology religious philosophy, was also on display highlighting his message about the role of artists in elevating the culture.
Artists and guests joined in singing the final number, John Lennon's iconic, "All we are saying is, 'Give Peace a Chance'".
