TROY, Mich., April 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Talmer Bancorp, Inc. and Talmer Bank and Trust Boards are pleased to announce the appointment of Barbara J. Mahone as board member, effective immediately.

Mahone brings a wealth of knowledge and more than 30 years of executive leadership experience. She retired from General Motors in 2008 as Executive Director, Human Resources for Global Product Development, where she led one of GM's largest Human Resources teams. In this role, she was responsible for developing global human resource strategies that covered 19,000 employees in 11 countries. She also was appointed by President Ronald Reagan, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, as chairman of the Federal Labor Relations Authority, an independent federal government agency.

As a longtime active member of the community, Mahone serves on a variety of boards, including the board of directors for the Beaumont Health System, the Walsh College Board of Trustees, the Shiloh Community Restoration Foundation Board and the Bizdom Board. Previously, she served on the Charter One Financial, Inc. Board and was a member of their Audit and Governance Committee.
She also has received numerous recognitions that include the 2013 Urban League of Detroit and Southeastern Michigan Distinguished Warrior Award, Crain's Detroit Business Most Influential Women, National Black MBA Association – Outstanding MBA of the Year, Michigan Chronicle Women of Excellence Award and the Rainbow Push & Citizenship Education Fund Living Legend Award. In recognition of her strong commitment and dedication to youth education, a library at the Pimlico Elementary School in Baltimore, Maryland, was renamed the Barbara J. Mahone Multi-Cultural Learning Center.
Mahone holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ohio State University, an MBA from the University of Michigan and completed the Harvard Business School Program for management development.
