SALT RIVER PIMA-MARICOPA INDIAN COMMUNITY, Ariz., April 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Further demonstrating a deference to the Native American culture from which it was inspired, Talking Stick Resort, an enterprise of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC), welcomes world renowned Native American performers to the property for regular shows. Beginning March 16, Yellow Bird Productions will perform two free shows at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for guests every Friday and Saturday through Memorial Day weekend.
"Talking Stick Resort is rooted in its culture, and it is a veritable showplace for our rich Native American heritage. Our pride is evident on several fronts, from the design of the property to the priceless Native American art collection," said Ramon Martinez, director of public relations for Talking Stick Resort. "These new presentations are another wonderful way the property is inviting guests to experience our culture."
During the 30 to 40 minute performances, guests will experience a true glimpse into the culture of a variety of Native American tribal communities through traditional dance and song. Dances showcased during the demonstration include a Plains Style Fancy, Women's Jingle Dress and Plains Northern Grass dances. A hoop dance also will be performed by one of the Yellow Bird hoop dance world champions.
Additionally, each presentation features traditional singing in the O'odham language one of the two tribes that represent the SRPMIC. Community members from the SRPMIC will be singing those historic songs and performing their tribe's traditional dances on the native lands their ancestors once called home.
