Talking Stick Resort Florist Crowned Winner Of Biltmore Fashion Park's Charity Bash
Pays homage to the 90s with dress made out of solar window screens, zip ties and Swarovski crystals
SALT RIVER PIMA-MARICOPA INDIAN COMMUNITY, Ariz., Jan. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Talking Stick Resort's on-site florist, Christine Price and Raul Nunez, one of the property's bakery chefs took home the grand prize for their glam full-length gown in "The Secret Garden" charity event. The Nov. 2 event, not only commemorated Biltmore Fashion Park's 50th anniversary, but also raised monies for five local charities.
"While working at Talking Stick Resort, I am fortunate to be able to use my creativity on a daily basis whether it be decorating the property or working with guests for events," said Christine Price, lead florist for Talking Stick Resort. "Doing fashion with Raul, however, took me out of my comfort zone and really allowed me to stretch my skills and vision. To be recognized for such an endeavor is such an honor."
Thirty-seven designers participated in the competition, which required that designs be made entirely of organic materials. Each was also expected to construct an ensemble that represented one of five decades beginning with the 60s. The final creations were then placed on mannequins and showcased on the Center Lawn at Biltmore Fashion Park.
Price and Nunez created a Versace-inspired gown representing the 90s. Constructed entirely from solar window screens and 9,000 hand-wired diamond mesh zip ties and sleeves covered in Swarovski crystals. All materials were hand sewn by the team who spent more than 170 hours finishing the gown.
"We're are extremely proud of Christine and Raul. Their high level of craftsmanship is apparent from the intricate detailing of the dress," Steve Gerken, Senior Director of Hospitality for Talking Stick Resort, said. "We get to see their creations every day, but its great that others get to see their hard work as well."
The duo were declared the winners for the Best Overall design and awarded a cash prize on Nov. 21. Proceeds from the event were donated to five local charities including Phoenix Children's Hospital, American Cancer Society, Fresh Start Women's Foundation, Phoenix Metropolitan Men's Chorus and PANDA: People Acting Now Discover Answers.
