Taking Steps Toward a Cure for Leukemia & Lymphoma
Honor Those Touched by Blood Cancer at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk
SAN DIEGO, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, November 5th, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 12th Annual Light the Night Walk will take place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds to raise money for those battling blood cancers. Carrying illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer - thousands of walkers will come together to bring light to the dark world of cancer during this 2-mile walk around the fairground's concourse.
With nearly 4,000 people in attendance, the 2009 Walk raised more than $335,000 to fight cancer. Through the money raised, researchers are awarded research grants to find solutions to this evergrowing epidemic. The Walk, which commemorates lives touched by blood cancers, is a celebration, with music, refreshments and family activities. Check-In will be at 6:00 PM with the opening ceremony beginning at 7:00 PM and the Walk starting at 7:30 PM.
"Light The Night Walk gives hope to patients and their families and lets them know they are not alone in their battle against cancer," said Jenna Korb, Executive Director of the San Diego Chapter. "It's a night to pay tribute to lives touched by cancer, honor those we've lost and celebrate the lives that have been saved. And the money raised supports critical research and patient education and services."
Each Fall between August and November, in more than 200 communities across the United States and Canada, walkers come together for an evening overflowing with sentiment and compassion. The Walk is open to the public.
The 2010 Light the Night Walk is sponsored in part by Burlington Coat Factory and Genoptix Medical Laboratory. For sponsorship information call 858-586-1202. For more information on the Walk visit, www.LightTheNight.org/sd or contact Kristin Sacco at [email protected], 858-277-1800.
