TakeLessons Teams Up with Amazon to Pioneer On-Demand Service Commerce
New On-Demand Access to Services Transforms the Way Local Services are Booked and Delivered
SAN DIEGO, March 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TakeLessons, the largest online marketplace for private lessons, today announced its participation in Amazon's new Home Services launch. In select cities, visitors to Amazon.com can easily book lessons with TakeLessons instructors directly from their Amazon account, transforming the way local services are booked and delivered.
Now, lessons for everything—ranging from math to Spanish to guitar—can be purchased through the familiar experience found on Amazon.com. Instructional services can be purchased independently, or alongside of a complementary product.
"The experience of booking services online, compared to five years ago, has evolved dramatically," said Steven Cox, CEO of TakeLessons. "On-demand access to services and lessons is the next phase of eCommerce. Consumers can now purchase services as easily as buying a book on Amazon.com, while freelancers and specialized instructors gain instant access to business opportunities that enable them to make a living with their existing skillset. We call it sCommerce – service commerce."
Scheduling a TakeLessons music instructor or tutor via Amazon Home Services is available in a few select cities, including Seattle, New York City and Los Angeles. All instructors have been selected and vetted by TakeLessons' rigorous application process. Once the purchase is made from the customer's Amazon account, instructors are notified of the new student and immediately connected with him or her to deliver the purchased lesson.
The Internet is not only creating dramatic improvements in how local services are booked and delivered, it is also catalyzing the rise of the freelance economy. Today, freelancers and contingent laborers make up nearly 15% of the workforce, and by 2020 those numbers are expected to rise to 20%. TakeLessons has accelerated in recent months to launch new categories—like Japanese, French, Spanish, Sewing and Crochet—to support the growing number of professionals available and eager to pass along their expertise.
"As TakeLessons expands to new metros and across new platforms like Amazon, the demand for service commerce continues to emerge," said Alan Cole, COO of TakeLessons. "We're giving providers a way to be their own boss, monetize their skillsets and safely and securely sell their services across the Amazon platform."
