TakeLessons Launches Its First Scholarship Program Inspiring The Passion Economy
SAN DIEGO, June 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- TakeLessons (http://takelessons.com), the nation's leading online marketplace for high quality, well-vetted instructors, has launched its first scholarship competition for college and university students. This scholarship is designed to further TakeLessons' mission of leveraging the power of technology to enable those who want to turn something they love doing – something that might otherwise have been a hobby – into a career. TakeLessons enables individuals of all ages and interests to do precisely that, by giving them the support, tools, and students they need in order to make a living teaching others, both online and in person, what they are most passionate about, whether that's music, French, math, theater, martial arts, crochet, or any other subject matter.
The scholarship application requires students to answer a thought-provoking question: "If you could earn a living doing what you love most, what would it be, and how would it change the world?" After an initial public voting round to narrow the field of applicants, TakeLessons will consider the top 10 responses, and choose three students who will be awarded $1,000, $2,000 and $5,000 in scholarship funds.
"I founded TakeLessons so that people could make a living doing what they love, by teaching others what they are most passionate about," said Steven Cox, CEO of TakeLessons. "This scholarship contest was specifically created to help college students realize that, through the power of technology, it is possible to pursue a career that drives 'the passion economy,' which we, at TakeLessons, define as making a career out of doing what you love most, and unleashing the courage in others to do the same."
