Take The Pledge For Better Health
HOCKESSIN, Del. , Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- September is Fruits & Veggies—More Matters Month and marks the debut of the new America's More Matters Pledge: Fruits & Veggies . . . Today and Every Day! The online campaign encourages everyone to pledge to eat more fruits and vegetables for better health and provides several tools to help ensure success. Every pledge taken is one step closer to being healthy for LIFE!
Developed in support of Michelle Obama's Let's Move childhood obesity initiative, America's More Matters pledge encourages everyone to open their dining options to the variety of colors, flavors, and forms of delicious fruits and vegetables by choosing between three promises that will increase the availability of fruits and veggies in schools, or on their own plates. Pledge to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables eaten each day; promise to go a step further and make them half of meals and snacks; or pledge to help increase fruits and vegetables in schools to make a difference in the health of our nation's children.
As part of the America's More Matters pledge, the Fruits & Veggies—More Matters website features a new Fruit & Veggie Happenings page. Enter a zip code to view a list of fruit and veggie activities, promotions, and events happening in that area. Site visitors are encouraged to share information on fruit and veggie occurrences in their area. The new feature also offers information on how schools can add fruit and vegetable vending machines and salad bars to lunchrooms and other fruit and veggie related resources.
Need help? The website is filled with tips, free downloadables, meal planning guides and other information that makes it easy to add more fruits and vegetables to meals and snacks. A recipe database and a video center offer fruit and veggie selection and storage advice along with preparation and usage techniques. Visitors can sign up to receive the recipe of the week or a bi-weekly e-newsletter offering perspectives on the latest fruit & veggie news. Those interested in the latest tips, recipes, and nutrition information, are encouraged to follow Fruits & Veggies—More Matters on Twitter, and Facebook.
