Take a Seat at the HANDY Thanksgiving Table: 600 Meals Shared with Local Families in Need
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- For some families in South Florida, providing a Thanksgiving dinner can be more of a struggle than a blessing. HANDY has been dedicated to changing the lives of vulnerable youth and shining a gleam of hope during the holiday season. This year, HANDY provided over 600 Thanksgiving meals to local families who participate in their award-winning programming at Westpine Middle School, Plantation Middle School, Pompano Beach Middle School, Eagles' Nest Charter Academy and their main site, the Lillian S. Wells Center in Fort Lauderdale.
"HANDY is the surrogate family for hundreds of children from across Broward. Every Thanksgiving we make sure our kids have more than just a traditional meal," Evan Goldman, HANDY's Chief Executive Officer, said. "It's equally as important to surround them with people who support them and care for their well being. We have much to be thankful for this year."
In addition to HANDY sponsored dinners in Broward County, the organization mobilized local businesses to play an active role in their efforts. With the help of a vibrant and caring community, HANDY was able to distribute 200 Thanksgiving baskets to families most in need.
Thanksgiving is about enjoying a special family meal and thanks to HANDY's dedicated board of directors, tireless staff and generous volunteers, deserving families across Broward County have a reason to be thankful this holiday season. HANDY is committed to supporting all of the youth it serves, as it has since the organization formed in 1985.
