Take a Minute to Stop and Taste the Water
New Jersey American Water Encourages Everyone to Ponder Water's Value During National Drinking Water Week
CHERRY HILL, N.J., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- For more than 30 years, the American Water Works Association and its members such as New Jersey American Water have celebrated Drinking Water Week, May 2 - 8, as an opportunity to recognize the vital role water plays in our daily lives.
"Without a safe, reliable supply of water, New Jersey communities will not be able to attract businesses, and maintain a quality of life," said John Bigelow, president of New Jersey American Water. "It's important to consider the incredible value of a safe, reliable water supply -- and the water system that delivers it -- in our everyday lives."
Clean water provides for the health and welfare of communities in ways ranging from disease prevention to fire suppression. The availability of it also creates jobs, attracts industry and investment. "We often take water supply for granted until it is threatened, either by drought, water main breaks, or some unforeseen event," said Bigelow.
Consumers can help to conserve and maintain the quality and integrity of water by taking the following actions:
- Be conscious of your daily water use and take the necessary steps in your home to conserve this precious natural resource
- Be sure that leaking pipes and faucets -- indoors and outdoors -- are repaired
- Take care in the use of garden, lawn, garage or other home products and ensure that they inadvertently do not find their way into groundwater
- Dispose of chemicals or other potentially harmful products properly and do not pour them directly into home drains, the sewer, street drains or the lawn
