Google Inc. Analyst Notes
On April 22, 2014, Bloomberg reported that search engine giant Google Inc. (Google) has agreed to buy 407 megawatts of wind power from Warren Buffett's MidAmerican Energy Holdings Co., as part of the plan to power its lowa data center with clean energy. According to Bloomberg, the Company has so far agreed to purchase more than a gigawatt of clean power for its data centers, and the latest deal is its largest clean power contract to date. International Business Machines Corporation Analyst Notes
On April 22, 2014, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) announced that its business unit IBM Watson Group (IBM Watson) will invest in Fluid Inc. (Fluid) to develop a new application that empowers online shoppers with the expertise and personalized advice of an in-store sales representative. According to the Company, the application called Fluid Expert Shopper (XPS) will give consumers the power to ask the app highly specific questions, and receive personalized advice that truly satisfies their needs. The Company stated that the application takes advantage of Watson's ability to answer consumers' questions and learn from their responses, engage in real-time conversations and then tailor suggestions for products in a rich and relevant manner. Mike Rhodin, SVP, IBM Watson, commented, "By tapping into IBM Watson's cognitive intelligence, Fluid is infusing the personalized, interactive feel of an in-store conversation into every digital shopping interaction." SunEdison, Inc. Analyst Notes
On April 21, 2014, SunEdison Inc. (SunEdison) announced that it has interconnected a 20-megawatt AC solar plant in Kern County, California. The project, known as the Adobe Solar Facility, is owned by Southern Company subsidiary, Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy and is made up of 80,000 SunEdison Silvantis™ Solar PV (photovoltaic) modules. Commenting on the development, Bob Powell, President, North America for SunEdison, said, "We are proud to complete our fourth project with Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy; longstanding partnerships like this one are critical to SunEdison's continued growth." The Company informed that Southern California Edison, a subsidiary of Edison International, will buy the power generated by the facility under the terms of a 20-year power purchase agreement. QUALCOMM Inc. Analyst Notes
On April 23, 2014, Qualcomm Incorporated (Qualcomm) announced results for the Q2 FY 2014 (period ended March 30, 2014). Qualcomm's revenues during the quarter increased 4.0% YoY to $6.4 billion, but fell short of the analysts' consensus estimates of $6.5 billion. Qualcomm reported GAAP diluted EPS of $1.14, up 7.5% YoY and 4.6% sequentially. The adjusted diluted net income of the Company stood at $1.31, surpassing the consensus estimates of $1.22 by the analysts as polled by Bloomberg. Qualcomm also raised its FY 2014 earnings guidance and now expects diluted EPS to be in the range of $4.37 - $4.57 versus $4.33 - $4.53 forecasted earlier. Baidu, Inc. Analyst Notes
On April 22, 2014, the stock (ADR) of Baidu Inc. (Baidu) gained for a second consecutive session and ended higher by 1.81% at $163.01. The stock opened at $160.27 and fluctuated between $160.20 and $164.42. A total of 3.90 million ADRs exchanged hands during the session, which was more than the previous day's 3.02 million. Baidu's stock has strengthened by 2.97% in last one month, outperforming the broader index NASDAQ Composite which has fallen 2.70% during the same time period.
