Tabula Wins 2010 IET Innovation in Engineering Award
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 30, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Tabula, Inc., a privately held fabless semiconductor company and developer of the ABAX family of 3D Programmable Logic Devices (3PLDs), is proud to announce it has won the Start-up category in the Institution of Engineering and Technology's (IET) prestigious 2010 Innovation in Engineering Awards.
Winners of the 2010 Innovation Awards, chosen from nearly 400 entries, were announced at a ceremony held in London on Wednesday, November 24th. Judges praised Tabula, saying: "Tabula was awarded Start-up of the year for their impressive 3D Programmable Logic Devices. The Company's innovation produces a new breed of programmable logic which promises to deliver performance through significantly reduced costs."
Tabula's winning entry describes how it produced the world's first 3D Programmable Logic Devices, resulting in a new category of general-purpose chips. Launched in March 2010, Tabula's ABAX product family of 3PLDs is based on its groundbreaking Spacetime™ technology which has been granted over 100 patents. A Spacetime based device reconfigures on the fly at multi-GHz rates, executing each portion of a design in an automatically defined sequence of steps thus producing a 3D device with multiple layers in which computation and signal transmission can occur. Manufactured using TSMC's 40nm process, the ABAX™ family combines the flexibility and rapid time-to-market of an FPGA with ASIC capacity, at price points suitable for volume production. When compared to competing FPGA products, ABAX 3PLD devices provide:
- 2.5x logic density,
- 2x memory capacity,
- 3x memory throughput,
- 4x signal processing throughput
"We are delighted to be recognized by the IET as the 2010 Start-up of the year. The IET awards recognize the vital role that innovation in engineering plays in the global economy. Our Spacetime technology represents one of the most advanced and bold innovations in the semiconductor industry," said Dennis Segers, CEO of Tabula. "This prestigious award is a testament to the achievements of our team and partners in commercializing our groundbreaking Spacetime architecture with the introduction of our ABAX family of 3D programmable logic devices. We extend our sincere gratitude to the judges of the 2010 IET Innovation Award event."
The IET Innovation Awards celebrate the products, technologies and processes that lead the way in engineering innovation. Spanning 15 categories, the Awards are judged by engineering experts and recognize the depth and breadth of innovative work being carried out across all areas of engineering and technology.
