"There has always been a strong need for companies to demystify their business data," said Christian Chabot, CEO and co-founder of Tableau Software. "Tableau figured out how to serve that need back in 2003, and we haven't looked back. We're poised to make rapid-fire business intelligence mainstream. Tableau is enabling Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, and startups alike to save time and reduce their frustrations associated with data analysis. Our client list is growing daily."
Today, Tableau released sales and employment figures as of second-quarter 2010. Current statistics include:
- 106 percent sales growth from first half 2009 to first half 2010.
- More than 5,000 clients, including Apple, the Dallas Cowboys and UNESCO. New clients this year include Zynga, Vanguard Health Systems and Logitech.
- Revenues last year grossed $20 million.
- The company currently employs 136 people, up from 100 at the beginning of 2010. The continual growth has generated 100 new job openings at the Seattle-based office to be filled in the next 12-18 months.
- Analyst firm Gartner named the company a "Challenger" in its 2010 Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms.
- 2010 awards include: Stevie Award winner, CODiE Award winner, MCDM Digital Disrupter Award winner, Puget Sound Business Journal's 2010 Best Places to Work finalist.
Tableau was spun out of Stanford University in 2003 and run as a labor of love out of Chabot's bedroom before becoming the fastest growing analytics company in the nation. In 2004, Tableau raised $5 million in venture capital after catching the eye of Scott Sandell, a partner at leading VC firm NEA and a member of Forbes' Midas List. Tableau went on to sign up global OEM partner Hyperion, positioning the company as an emerging startup not to be ignored. The following year marked the first of six consecutive years of record growth, which has continued into 2010. In 2008, the company raised $10 million in a second VC round, again from NEA who took the entire round.
Tableau's products provide business analytics that are quick to deploy and easy to use—a formula meant to relieve businesses from the complexity and rigidity of traditional business intelligence platforms. Tableau users can connect to virtually any data source and rapidly create interactive dashboards and visualizations, which can be shared across their organization.
