Also this quarter, Tableau was named by Software Magazine as the fastest growing software company in the $10 million to $30 million range in the world, and the second fastest growing software company worldwide overall. The ranking stems from the publication's 28th annual Software 500 ranking of the world's largest software service providers.
"We're growing fast because the market is starving for easy-to-use products that deliver rapid-fire business intelligence to everyone. Our customers want ways to unlock their databases and produce engaging reports and dashboards," said Christian Chabot CEO and co-founder of Tableau. "We are fundamentally different than the legacy BI platforms that became popular last century. People want to be empowered by data rather than restricted by it, no matter their level in the organization."
Tableau is the fastest growing BI software company worldwide, surpassing all other Gartner Magic Quadrant players and disrupting an industry historically dominated by software giants like Microsoft, Oracle and IBM. Tableau has generated a robust and growing following, selling out its 2010 Annual Customer Conference three weeks in advance even after more than doubling capacity.
"As a rapidly growing global logistics provider, my team needs to quickly create and curate high quality BI reports without burdening our IT department at each step, and Tableau's sophisticated approach has led me to not only select and utilize the product, but consider Tableau a business partner," said Chris Brinkman, CEO of TNL Global, Inc. "Competitive BI software like QlikView from QlikTech is difficult to use without a consultant or IT manager by your side, a less than optimal allocation of our team's time and energy. Tableau is a powerful tool that's easy to use, built to last, and continues to impress my customers."
According to market research firm IDC, annual data generation will reach 35 zettabytes or about 35 million petabytes by 2020. That is enough data to fill a stack of DVDs reaching halfway to Mars, or 17.5 million times the entire collections of all the academic libraries in the United States. As a result, business intelligence has become an eight billion dollar industry and continues to increase each year. Global Industry Analysts released a report in July projecting the BI software market will reach $12.4 billion by 2015. In May, Forrester came out with a report on the state of the BI industry, finding 49 percent of companies are planning a BI project in 2010 or soon after.
Tableau's products provide business analytics that are quick to deploy and easy to use -- a formula meant to relieve businesses from the complexity and rigidity of traditional business intelligence platforms. Tableau users can connect to virtually any data source and rapidly create interactive dashboards and visualizations, which can be shared across their organization.
