Tableau 8.3 Extends Enterprise Security with Support for Kerberos
Kerberos support provides single sign-on and smart card support for more delightful Tableau Server experience
SEATTLE, Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tableau Software (NYSE: DATA) today announced the general availability of Tableau 8.3, an update that delivers support for Kerberos for Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services and Cloudera Impala. Kerberos support provides single sign-on from the desktop or browser all the way to the database.
"Many of our customers have asked for Kerberos support to make the Tableau Server experience more delightful," said Dan Jewett, Vice President of Product Management at Tableau Software. "Tableau already supports enterprise class security and authentication mechanisms but with the release of 8.3, we are extending that flexibility further and making it even easier for people to see and understand their data."
With Tableau 8.3, support for Kerberos delivers single sign-on for users across multiple services on a network, using strong cryptography. The new Kerberos support extends the options available for security integrations from Tableau, which has previously supported native Active Directory and other Identity Management providers using SAML. Tableau Server also supports a built-in authentication system.
Eastman, a global specialty chemical company that produces a broad range of products found in items people use every day, has been beta testing Tableau 8.3. "Support for Kerberos delegation in Tableau Server will enable us to leverage our database security model with ease," said David Purdy, Corporate IT Architect at Eastman Chemical Company. "Authors can create visualizations against secured database views and/or OLAP cubes and publish them without worrying about security because now the backend data source can take care of that based on the viewer's identity. As an added bonus, the guided configuration made set-up easy."
Kerberos in Tableau 8.3:
- Enables seamless, single sign-on experience from your Windows login through the Tableau client to back-end data sources
- Ensures sensitive data stays protected by integrating with existing IT investments in enterprise-grade authentication and data security
- Supports smart card authentication
